DKD Calibration Service for Length Measurements up to 1000mm
Mission and Tasks of the DKD
The DKD was established on the 25th of August 1977 by the Physicalish- Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) and the Federal Ministry of Economics as the highest technical authority for metrology in the Federal Republic of Germany and for the industry.
The DKD guarantees that industrial metrology measuring and testing equipment is linked to national standards. In industry there is a need for high precision measuring instruments and measuring standards to be calibrated, and awarded a recognized test certificate; this promotes competition in both the national and international markets.
The Importance of the DKD
Proof of conformity to national standard is increasingly required for the measuring equipment used for product testing in public commissioning, in export, and in technical and scientific collaboration. To guarantee the reliability of measuring results, for example, testing regulations of national and other official bodies often include the requirement that the measuring equipment used must have been calibrated against national standards.
The importance of calibration certificates in national and international competition is increasing all the time and is of interest to both the manufacturer and the user of measuring equipment. The issuance of DKD-calibration certificates raises confidence in the metrological qualification of the calibration center, due to the supervision by the PTB.
Performance
Upon commission, DKD calibration laboratories check measuring instruments and inspection equipment. The results are states in a calibration certificate and the tested pieces are provided with a calibration label; by this means, the traceability to the National Standard is proven.
| The volume of calibration is based on the DKD guideline DKD-R4-3 as well as annexures 8 and 9 of the accreditation document. | |
